Our Marine Money London 2022 was held on Monday, 11th April at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House, Park Lane.

Our theme at the conference was THE ENVIRONMENT IS EVERYTHING IN SHIPPING DECISION MAKING. It was clear after COP26 and with so much debate amongst governments and academics and at large within and outwith the industry the environment has now become the dominant factor in decision making in shipping, and indeed in all industries. The pace for change is accelerating and our industry will be impacted from customers, suppliers, financiers and investors. There is no way to avoid it any more.

Our London 2022 conference delved deep into ESG and the environment and its impact on shipping, from long term strategies to reach zero carbon in the coming decades, to shorter term pressures from suppliers and banks and investors. Hoped by all 2022 will be the start of a new era getting beyond COVID in many parts of the world and setting a course for a cleaner world, and it is extremely exciting for shipping. With the container and dry sectors still strong with post COVID demand and with prospects for tankers expected the industry is in a better position than for many years. Demand remains strong and supply is stymied by indecision about newbuildings because of uncertainty about future propulsion methods. Thus it may be that these strong markets will be with us at least throughout 2022 and perhaps beyond.
